How to NOT Pay Attention

You’re doing it all the time

The other day, I was ordering food from a local restaurant.

I placed the order, double-checked everything was right, and then whipped out my credit card to pay the due.

I rattled off the first batch of numbers.

“And the expiry?”

“780.”

“The expiry?”

“780.”

“The expiry is 780?”

“Yup, 780.”

“I’m confused…”

The lady on the phone didn’t know what to say.

Then it hit me…

“Oooh, the expiry! Sorry. 03/22”

It’s obvious I wasn’t paying attention.

We both had a good laugh, wrapped up the call, and went our merry ways.

I’m sure she got off the phone thinking:

“What the heck was that guy smoking?”

Talk about feeling stupid and embarrassed…

Anyway, why do I bring this up?

What does my comical little brainfart have to do with anything?

Quite a lot, actually.

See, most people, most of the time, don’t pay attention to anything that’s happening around them.

They ‘listen’ to people… but don’t hear what they have to say.

They ‘watch’ things happen… but don’t really see anything at all.

Then, at some point, they wonder why they feel so disconnected to the world and everything around them.

The solution?

Pay attention to what you’re doing.

Open your ears, open your eyes, open your heart, and open your mind.

Give everyone the same attention you’d want for yourself.

Live and love by the Golden Rule:

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

You’d be surprised how many problems you can solve simply by paying attention.

So be mindful.
Be present.
Be in the Here and Now.

The more you can do that, the easier your life will ultimately become.

Halt right there!
