The ‘All-Important’ Lesson When Facing Serious Challenges

Over the past few days, I’ve dealt with many challenges.

Challenges that have brought out the best in me and the worst in me. Challenges that have made me both proud and regretful of my own behavior. Challenges I’m happy for, appreciative for, and prepared for, too.

I don’t have enough time right now to do the story justice. So for the time being, I’ll spare you the intricate details.

Instead, I’d like to share with you a lesson I unearthed along the way — a lesson that made me analyze my own behavior and discover a part of myself that was broken, selfish, and weak.

It’s a Universal lesson.
It’s an important lesson.
It’s a lesson I think everyone should know.

So what is it?

What is this all-important lesson?

Here it is:

No matter how irritated or upset you get, you are always responsible for the energy you carry around you.

You are responsible for your emotions.

You are responsible for your behavior.

You are responsible for your attitude, your candor, your demeanor, and your presence.

You are responsible for YOU.

Simple as that.

I know how easy it is to get caught up in the swift current of life. Caught up in thought. Caught up in anxiety. Caught up in every problem and obstacle happening around us.

But what we often fail to see during those times is how our own behavior is affecting the people we’re with.

Are we being respectful?

Are we being kind?

Are we doing our best to remain mindful, peaceful, and present?

More often than not, the answer to those questions is “No” — and that’s exactly the type of answer that gets us deeper by the second.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Instead, when faced with a serious challenge, remember:

You are responsible for the energy you carry around you.

You are responsible for your emotions.

You are responsible for your behavior.

You are responsible for your attitude, your candor, your demeanor, and your presence.

Keep it respectful.

Keep it kind.

And I promise your challenges will be easier because of it.

Halt right there!
