The Book Passage That Opened My Eyes & Changed My Life Forever
And put me in control of this wild and wonderful life
Behold a passage from the Granddaddy of all self-help and personal development books ‘Think and Grow Rich,’ written by Napoleon Hill in 1937.
This very passage was the catalyst that changed the course of my life forever. It opened my eyes and showed me that, no matter what I wanted out of life, it was up to me to get it. I’m the one who’s in control. I’m the one who fulfills my own destiny. I’m the one who steers the ship wherever I desire.
I can’t say for sure whether these words will impact you the same way. But I can say for certain that all of my success can be traced back to them.
I hope, one day, you’ll be able to say the same.
Take it away, Napoleon:
When the English poet W. C. Henley wrote the prophetic lines, “I am the Master of my Fate, I am the Captain of my Soul,” he should have informed us that the reason we are the Masters of our Fate, the Captains of our Souls is because we have the power to control our thoughts.
He should have told us that the ether in which this little planet floats, in which we move and have our being, is a form of energy moving at an inconceivably high rate of vibration, and that the ether is filled with a form of universal power which adapts itself to the nature of the thoughts we hold in our minds; and influences us, in natural ways, to transmute our thoughts into their physical equivalent.
If the poet had told us of this great truth, we would know why it is that we are the Masters of our Fate, the Captains of our Souls. He should have told us, with great emphasis, that this power makes no attempt to discriminate between destructive and constructive thoughts, that it will urge us to translate into physical reality thoughts of poverty just as quickly as it will influence us to act upon thoughts of riches.
He should have told us, too, that our brains become magnetized with the dominating thoughts we hold in our minds. By means with which no one is familiar, these “magnets” attract to us the forces, the people, the circumstances of life which harmonize with the nature of our dominating thoughts.
He should have told us that before we can accumulate riches in great abundance, we must magnetize our minds with intense desire for riches, that we must become “money conscious” until the desire for money drives us to create definite plans for acquiring it.
Deep stuff, right?
And one thing I want to note — based off my own personal experience — is that you can swap the words “money” and “riches” with anything you want.
Napoleon’s goal, of course, was to teach you how to become rich and how to accumulate a great fortune. But to me, riches and fortunes come in many different forms. It’s not always money we’re after.
But either way, the words hold true.
You are the Master of your Fate.
You are the Captain of your Soul.
And based on the thoughts you hold most often, you shape your life accordingly.
Understand this and you’ll have no problem creating the life you desire.
Halt right there!
