The Easiest & Hardest Thing I’ve Ever Done
Funny how that works…
Three years ago, I stopped smoking.
It was both the easiest and hardest thing I’ve ever done.
Easy because once it happened, it happened. I didn’t have to force it. Hard because I likely tried a hundred times before it stuck.
Sometimes, my failure was devastating. I’d work up the courage to kick the nic, and then start smoking again a day or two later. If you are (or were ever) a smoker, I’m sure you know what I mean.
They say that first 3-day hump is the hardest. And at the time, I bought into that myth hook, line, and sinker. I thought to myself, “If I can make it past that hump, I’ll be free.”
But in reality, that was never the case.
The truth is…
I didn’t want it bad it enough.
Sure, I tried a hundred times to stop. But the cigarettes always called back to me. Deep down, I wanted them… and that’s why I keep going back.
Heck, not even the birth of my daughter could get me to stop. I continued smoking for almost 3 months after she was born.
But there’s a funny thing about persistence…
It never fails.
As long as you keep trying to make something happen, IT WILL happen. YOU WILL succeed. At one point or another, the force behind your cumulative effort becomes far too strong to deny.
When that happens, what you wanted all along comes easy. But sometimes it takes years of trying to become an overnight success.
Moral of the story?
Don’t give up — even if you fail time and time again, it doesn’t matter.
With every attempt, you reinforce the belief that this is something you really want. And once that belief finally takes hold, the rest is history.
Halt right there!
