The Rainy Day Way to Write Content That Stays
Stay inside, folks
You might be wondering.
“What does a rainy day have to do with writing great content?”
I was asking myself the same question while gazing out my front window this morning.
But then it hit me.
In fact, when I actually started to think about it, the answer was far more obvious than I expected.
Now, I’d like to share it with you.
Okay, so, where do we start?
Let’s begin with a little exercise:
Imagine, for a moment, you wake up to torrential rain outside your window. You have no raincoat, no umbrella, and no real desire to go outside while it’s raining cats and dogs, anyway.
So what do you do?
You stay inside.
You stay in your own home.
You stay where the rain can’t get you.
You stay safe and dry and happy within your own little world.
Believe it or not…
This is also one of the best places to find great content, too.
What do I mean by that?
Too often, writers look outside themselves to find their subject matter. What problems are my readers dealing with? What pains do they want solutions for? What issues can I solve for them?
And though this is a wise and noble (and very smart) way to create your content…
It’s also not the only way to do it.
In fact, sometimes, you need a little more direction than your readers can provide.
THAT’S when the Rainy Day Way comes into play.
Instead of looking at your readers for answers…
You go inside and look at yourself.
— What pains are you dealing with?
— What problems do you want solved?
— What issues are top-of-mind in your life?
— What can you write about for you?
Some of the best articles I’ve ever written weren’t for other people — they were for myself.
They addressed my own problems. My own fears. My own pains and desired solutions. And I was able to write about them with little effort because they were intimately connected to me.
THAT’S what the Rainy Day Way is all about.
It’s not about them…
It’s about YOU.
Your problems.
Your desires.
Your world.
Stick with that and you’ll be golden.
Now, this isn’t a strategy I would recommend you do ALL THE TIME…
But it’s certainly a good tool to have in your pocket if and when you need it.
Rainy days only come every now and then.
And the Rainy Day Way should only come every now and then, too
