Ever watch the sitcom Friends?

You know, that semi-popular TV show of the 90s and early 2000s?

If you’re like most people, chances are you have. Or at least caught fragments of an episode here and there while browsing for something else.

The reason I bring it up is because I recently started it from the beginning with my wife. Pretty late to the party, I know. But it was time to give it a shot.

And let me tell ya…

As funny and great as the show is…

Ross and Rachel are one of the most toxic couples I’ve ever seen. I mean, what the hell is going on there? This is the relationship everyone swooned over and wanted to emulate while I was growing up? No wonder so many people are bitter and disappointed with their partners.

The first time Ross and Rachel ever expressed their feelings to each other, they fought. They fought bad. Yelling, screaming, the whole nine yards. They anchored that moment in a fight.

Sure, it was dramatic.

Sure, the whole come-back-and-stand-by-the-door-in-the-rain thing made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

And sure, the moment inspired some excitement within me.

That’s good TV.

But that’s a terrible way to kick off a relationship. You know it, I know it, and Ross and Rachel should’ve known it, too.

Anyway, what’s the point of all this?

I’m not really sure there is one.

But what I can say is that, if you’ve ever fantasized about having a relationship like Ross and Rachel…

… think again.

What they had was mired in muck straight from the beginning.

It may have been good for TV…

But it would no doubt be bad for you.

You deserve more.

We ALL deserve more.

We deserve to be with people who love us, accept us, and respect us enough to avoid fighting and bringing us down.

Ross and Rachel are toxic AF.

Go ahead and try to prove me wrong.

Halt right there!
